Type 2 Fun

Cycling is fun. That is the main reason we do it, right? Sometimes though the fun is more retrospectively than in the moment. The rain/snow may be getting hammered into your face by a headwind. The mud may be trying to suck you underground. When you get home, though, you just want to do it all again.
Today’s ride had moments of both type 1 and type 2 fun. Sometime’s the mud slop jumped from type 2 to type 1. The risk of sliding out and down various banks and into a river just seems to elevate mere sloppy struggle into a massive mile-wide grin.

Anytime I felt I was lagging, all I had to do was look around me. The world is incredible and sometimes being in a muddy field lashed with rain is the perfect way to experience it.

As with a load of muddy rides, I did end up having to work out if I preferred dehydration or risking my bottle. I went with dehydration.

I might have ended up covered in mud, riding through the pouring rain, had to get off and hike through sections but it was still a million times better than being on a turbo.
