Today is Sunday, 8th Feb, and I am glad to have survived January. This is another one of those posts where I know I want to release some words, but I haven’t got a solid plan at the moment, so I’m going to see what happens. First up, though, is a tracklocross video I have enjoyed this week.
Seemingly, bits of Scotland are in the longest period of time we have had without seeing the sun, and honestly, I feel it. I think the last dry day was Boxing Day, and I, for one, am over it.
I own all the right kit, I know how to ride in these conditions, but I simply can’t get over the cognitive load of getting ready, then knowing all the cleaning that will have to happen after I’m back. I am that neurodivergent stereotype that can’t cope with laundry, and I just don’t want to add it.
I have brought this up at work, and many others are in a similar boat, which makes me wonder how, as a cycling organisation, we can get more people cycling if we have reached a point where the cyclists in the organisation are getting over the idea of going for a ride?
Is this just getting old?

I mean, I could just dig the turbo out, but that annoys me even more. Prob just go and have a chill indoor BMX session today. I wonder if I’ve been riding BMX more as it has a lower cognitive load, like I don’t need to get dressed up as a cyclist, I just need to turn up and faff about.
Which brings me to another video.
Tam is great and happy that he is involved in some of my work projects.
Ironic, really, said I’m getting old, then went back to a “youth” sport.

Thankfully, I don’t wear a baseball cap backwards.
Tomorrow, though, I’m in the velodrome, so on the fixies in the dry, I guess I should not complain about that.
I think I’ve cured my apathy.
