The other week, I wrote out a list of frames, which I called classic tracklocross frames; those frames cleared 33mm tyres; today, we will look at track frames which are larger than 33mm. I call these progressive tracklocross frames.

I consider some frames missing from this list, such as the Santa Fixie Wild or the On-One Mulo. They aren’t on the brands’ websites, so who knows if they are returning? Not me, anyway?
8bar NEUKLN
The 8bar Neuklin is a perfect example of a progressive tracklocross frame. It can be a simple city singlespeed with some nice brake cable routing, or you can fit 35c tyres, get out, and hit the trails on it. The 4130 frames are also available with a carbon fork, allowing you to add a little bit of modernity to your classic-looking bike.
Brooklyn Machine Works Gangsta V4
For those of us who may fall victim to nostalgia, the BMW Gangsta V4 is for us. I nearly bought one this year but ended up impulsively buying a Skream off eBay. This 4130 beast can fit 35mm tyres and has removable canti studs in case you want to run brakes.
Brother Cycles The Allday
Brother Cycles, The Allday is a frame that wouldn’t look out of place in the classic frameset guide, but with 35mm tyre clearance, this is solidly in my progressive category. With mudguard mounts and brake mounts, The Allday can double as an all-weather single-speed commuter and your tracklocross rig. The Allday is a quiver of a bike.
Crust Florida Man
The Crust Florida Man can clear massive tyres, 2.4″ wide in 650b wheel sizes. Part of the reason for this is the departure from 120mm rear hub spacing and using the old road spacing of 130mm. The Florida Man also comes with removable brake bosses, so you can get that clean look when you want to shed the brakes.
Crust Single Speed Lightning Bolt
Crust realised the best way to make their Lightning Bolt frames relevant to the greatest cyclists in the world was to release a version with 120mm track ends and clearance for 48mm tyres in 650b format.
Destroy (Cee-lo) Tracklocross
I really like Destroy Bikes, and it would be nice if they would sell me one; twice now, they have gone to get a shipping price and not come back. So, it’s probably easier to buy if you live in America. There is clearance for tyres 42mm wide, and this is because the back end is 135mm spaced. The seat post is also a larger diameter than usual for a steel frame, allowing you to have a wider choice of dropper posts; we did call this the progressive category.
Mash Steel
Mash possibly needs no introduction at this point to the fixie crowd; here we have the Steel model with clearance for 38mm tyres and mixes classic looks with vibrant colourways.
Maverick has turned some tubes of 725 steel into a nice little fixed gear frameset called the Jedan. With clearance for up to 40mm wide tyres, you can have some comfort for taking yourself into the middle of nowhere.
Scolarian Zanskar
The Scolarian Zanskar is another classic steel frame designed for progressive tracklocross riding. This 4130 beauty has clearance for 37 mm-wide tyres, and Robin Ditchburn beats up one of their gravel bikes, so I’m sold.
Skream Magnum24
I’m currently riding a Skream Magnum24. Is that a sign? I don’t know; I just fancied a change from my usual 4130 steel is real shenanigans; I’m growing older and becoming more inclusive. With clearance for 35mm tyres but a ride that feels pretty close to a “real” track bike, you can get out and scare yourself silly.
Skream Ranger
I bought a Skream Magnum24 so I could constantly get the question, “Why did you not get the Ranger, it clears 43mm tyres?” The answer is simple, I don’t like the paint jobs. There you go, I bought a bike because I thought it looked better to me, and honestly, that is why you should buy a bike; at least then you will want to go out and ride it.
Squid SO-EZ
With the demise of the Steamroller, the Squid SO-EZ must be one of the most popular off-the-shelf tracklocross frames. With clearance for 43mm tyres, helped by a 135mm rear end, it can take you anywhere, and my old one did indeed.
With 40mm tyre clearance, the Tsunami TC01 joins the progressive tracklocross clan. While they have a lot of frames represented in the classic tracklocross category, this is the beast specifically for tracklocross.
Tyrant Legacy
I really like the Tyrant Legacy raw and gold colourway; it’s nice and classic. With clearance for 35mm tyres, this steel beast fits right in my progressive tracklocross category.
Volume Cutter
I’ve had a soft spot for Volume since I owned a Mid frame, which is probably showing my age now. The Cutter is also a classic name in the trick track setting, which means with 45mm tyre clearance, you can get down to some shenanigans in the mud.
To continue my love for Volume, we have the Volume Thrasher. It seems not the best for barspins with tight fork clearance, but with a 45mm tyre clearance, you can certainly get out and about in the woods on a Thrasher.
Finally, we have arrived at Zach G’s favourite fixie company with the Wabi Thunder. There is clearance for 44mm tyres and a classic steel frame with removable canti mounts, giving you a nicely versatile frameset.
