Tracklovlog 3 – All-City Big Block or Surly Steamroller

Tracklovlog 3 – All-City Big Block or Surly Steamroller

I often get asked if I prefer my All-City Big Block or my Surly Steamroller for riding tracklocross; I thought it was about time I posted about when I prefer to use them.

Fixated Vlog 3 – More Trick Track Riding

Fixated Vlog 3 – More Trick Track Riding

I took the All-City Big Block out to try and build on my trick track skills. I am still slowly building these skills and seem to have more excuses than actual progress at the moment. Anyway, give the video a view and see what you feel.

Fixated Vlog 2- More Trick Track Fixed Gear Shenanigans

Fixated Vlog 2- More Trick Track Fixed Gear Shenanigans

Over on the YouTubes, I have decided to mess about with two vlogs a week. It is about time I tried to stick to a schedule, so from now on, I will post a Fixated vlog on Wednesday evenings (UK time) and my tracklocross vlogs on a Friday evenings. For the second video, I mess about with the trick track bike and turn it into a commuter and back again to fail at track stands and to make some interesting life choices at the skatepark.

Fixated VLOG – The Trick Track Beginnings

Fixated VLOG – The Trick Track Beginnings

I’ve started another VLOG, why you may ask, and it would be a fair question. I have done so to add to my tracklocross offerings as I’m delving into more fixed gear riding, and I felt a little separation would be nice. In this VLOG, I change my All-City Big Block from a street cruiser into a trick track bike as I diversify my riding and work on new skills.

I also eat humble pie, assuming my BMX and offroad fixed gear skills would be easily transferable. Turns out they weren’t.

Tracklocross Chronicles VLOG 2 – The Squid SO-EZ Tracklocross Build

Tracklocross Chronicles VLOG 2 – The Squid SO-EZ Tracklocross Build

The other day I posted my Squid SO-EZ on r/tracklocross, on Reddit if you didn’t know, and got many questions. I decided to make a little YouTube video to show the bike and hopefully answer a few of those questions. Got to say I love riding the SO-EZ tracklocross frameset, and I probably consider it more of a retro mountain bike than I do a track bike.

Tracklocross Chronicles: YouTube VLOGs

Tracklocross Chronicles: YouTube VLOGs

Ok, so I’ve now started to do VLOGs. In the first one, I’ve left all my mistakes in, so you can see that we are all imperfect, but we can try our best. I’m also in no way a YouTube professional, and these VLOGs will always reflect that. In this one, I forgot to put any tracklocross in, but you do get a little FGFS action and a look at the fixed gear BMX I built; I think it’ll change the world, but I’m not saying if for good or for bad.

The FGFS Bike Idea – What is FGFS?

The FGFS Bike Idea – What is FGFS?

A few months ago, I pondered riding an FGFS bike again. Then, after a month or so, I got one, sort of. I bought a Radio Ceptor, which is seemingly a Bombtrack Zion that has been repurposed and turned into a 26″ wheeled BMX cruiser. Its 120mm spacing at the rear makes the idea that it is a fixed gear freestyle frame seem legitimate, especially as it looks like the Zion and is released through Bombtrack’s sister company.

Tracklocross Ride Through Bellshill Wheeled Sports Area

Tracklocross Ride Through Bellshill Wheeled Sports Area

At work, we’ve spent the last few years working on a wheeled sports area for Strathclyde Park. It is now open, although the opening day is still a few months away. Today, I took the tracklocross rig for a little pedal through the skills area and the down the blue trail. Give the video a little watch, and then go ride your bike.

Tracklocross in the Moment

Tracklocross in the Moment

I often talk about tracklocross and mindfulness working well together, perhaps because my day job uses cycling and mindfulness as teaching tools to help build communities. I don’t want to use the cliche that riding fixed gear bikes makes you more in tune with your machine, but sometimes if the adage fits, so be it. Being in tune with your bike inspires the idea of being in the moment and perfect harmony between yourself and your bike.

My Top 6 Tracklocross Frames for 2023

My Top 6 Tracklocross Frames for 2023

I wrote an enormous article and a follow up where I listed a whole pile of frames for tracklocross. For this year, rather than trying to be fully encompassing, I will list my top 6 tracklocross frames for this year. I’ve gone with frames that should be pretty much available worldwide.
